Psoriasis develops in people of any race, gender, or age. About 2% of the world’s population is affected by psoriasis. It commonly results in red, dry, scaly patches to appear on the surface of the skin. Psoriasis in not just skin deep.
Myth: “Psoriasis is just a cosmetic problem.”
Fact: Although psoriasis affects the skin, it is actually a long term condition as a result of an abnormal immune system that results in the rapid growth of skin cells. The presence of psoriasis can be associated with depression, obesity, liver disease, diabetes, or heart disease. In addition, living with psoriasis can have emotional, social, and psychological effects.
Many people require medication other than lotions or light therapy to help manage their symptoms. This clinical research study will be comparing the safety and effectiveness of an investigational study medication to placebo (inactive substance) for plaque psoriasis.
